A new coalition of human worlds puts the Atlantis team on trial for their alleged crimes against the Pegasus Galaxy.

|
Atlantis is introduced to a group trying to form a coalition of humans from many different worlds against the Wraith. They have asked specifically for John Sheppard and his team -- who have gained a bit of notoriety in the Pegasus Galaxy over the past few years -- to visit one of their worlds. Among the representative leaders is Kelore of Latira, Shiana of the Tribes of Santhal, and Dimas of the Free Peoples of Riva.
But soon after the team arrives, they find that they have not been asked there to join the alliance. Instead, the Coalition has other plans for the team: they are to stand trial for the Atlantis expedition's crimes against the Pegasus Galaxy. Sheppard is made to explain things such as the existence of Michael, a sort of Wraith-human hybrid ("Michael"), and the catastrophic Hoffan plague that recently swept through the galaxy ("The Kindred").
Major Lorne and his team escort a Coalition representative, Myrus, through the gate to meet with Mr. Woolsey in Atlantis. He explains the situation, arguing that Atlantis has been making unilateral decisions in the war against the Wraith that affect the lives of countless millions on many worlds. The Coalition intends to institute accountability and due process.
Finally, Woolsey decides to travel to the Coalition planet himself, and put his diplomatic skills to use: He will be taking over the team's public defense. But the ethical arguments and political twists have only just begun -- and nothing less than the future of the expedition is at stake.

PRODUCTION
Actor David Lovgren ("Kelore") should look familiar to Stargate SG-1 watchers. He played Teal'c's friend Va'lar in Season Five's "Threshold," and Mitchell's high school buddy Darrell in Season Ten's "Bounty."
Actor Tobias Slezak played Tech Sergeant Dale James in the 2-part Stargate SG-1 episode "Heroes."
"Alex has been hard at work on his very first Atlantis script, 'Inquisition,' that will address an issue a number of you have brought up of late." (Executive producer Joseph Mallozzi, in a post at his blog)
"We did an episode that is a war crimes trial and Woolsey has to defend Atlantis in court. Woolsey has nine pages of dialogue!" (Actor Robert Picardo, at the Comic-Con 2008 Stargate Atlantis panel)
"'Inquisition' is a clip show, [and] that didn't make it any easier to write. You see, there's a particular aspect of writing clip shows that's extra tough, and that is the part where they move in and out of the clips. Of course Paul Mullie, who did the re-write and produced the episode, has lots of clip show experience, but this was my first attempt. And writing specs and other scripts didn't prepare me one bit. So let's just say it was a great learning experience.
"At the end of the day, the writing staff was very kind. They met with me on my first draft, gave me notes and some time to re-write the script. I did another draft too on another round of notes. In the writing I found some things about the characters and the story that worked well; other stuff was discarded. There's certainly some of my writing in the finished product, but I must credit Paul Mullie and the writing staff with much of the episode's success. And my experience is not unlike other first time writers of any show. Stargate is no exception.
"The coolest part of the show, which is always why people watch clip shows, is that you'll get to see pretty much every cool space battle we've done. There's also great acting in this one -- keep your eyes open for the character of Myrus (the Council Liaison), who is played by my real life brother, Tobias Slezak (different last name). He did a great job." (Writer Alex Levine, in a post at his SciFi.com blog)
