Engineering the Atlantis hurricane

Tuesday - March 1, 2005 | by David Read

Rainmaker Digital, the visual effects powerhouse for many effects done on Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis, was recently featured in two articles detailing their spectacular visual effects work with the hurricane that nearly destroyed the island city of Atlantis in the mid-season 2-parter "The Storm" and "The Eye."

Millimeter magazine's feature article "Styling a Storm" includes an interview with Rainmaker's Digital Effects Supervisor Bruce Woloshyn, as well as a graphic showing the stages of the hurricane prior to its collision with the city from animatic to final composite.

Entertainment Engineering includes a high-rendered image of their cover featuring the city of Atlantis, as well as a PDF link to download the entire inside article (3.15 MB, Adobe Acrobat Reader required).

(Thanks to Bruce Woloshyn for the tip!)
