Hewlett discusses a friend's return

Wednesday - September 12, 2007 | by Chad Colvin

Beware of minor SPOILERS for Stargate Atlantis Season Four's "The Kindred" below.

David Hewlett recently shared his thoughts about the demise and return of one of Stargate Atlantis's most loved characters -- Dr. Carson Beckett -- in a new interview at SCI FI Weekly.

Beckett was killed in the recent episode "Sunday."

"For me, there was a big hole there," he said, "because Paul [McGillion], my friend, was no longer on set with me all the time. As it turns out in sci-fi, nobody dies. We've actually had him on set again recently, which was kind of fun. And I hope that we'll be seeing more of him."

When pressed for details on how Beckett will return to the Ancient city, Hewlett said, "Let's just say Beckett becomes a product of his own genius, to some extent. And we see not only old friends, but old enemies.

"I think the fans are going to love where it goes, shall I say," Hewlett added. "We had a lot of fun shooting it. He was back in fine form."

David recently talked to GateWorld as well, and spoke about the class act McGillion is. "The guy buys pizza for the crew," he tells us. "He's back for a week, he buys pizza for the crew, makes us all look bad! He caught me walking off with two pizzas that hadn't been eaten. I was like, 'Well, no one's eating them!' 'Of course no one's eating them -- you're walking off with them! He's just a classy guy."

Fans are holding their breath that ratings for the opening episodes of the season will be enough to keep Atlantis afloat as SCI FI Channel makes their decision of whether or not to renew for a fifth year of television. If it does happen, Hewlett is convinced we'll be seeing more of Beckett beyond Season Four. "Judging by the performance and stuff he was doing on his return," he tells us, "I'd be amazed if we don't see more of Beckett in the future."

Season Four of Stargate Atlantis premieres on the SCI FI Channel on Friday, September 28.
