New year heralds change for Teyla

Thursday - September 13, 2007 | by Chad Colvin

As part of a brand-new interview, available at the SCI FI Weekly Web site, Rachel Luttrell fielded questions about how the character of Teyla has evolved over the past three years -- and what's in store for the Athosian in Season Four.

"The first time we met her, she was happily with her people," Luttrell said. "But she's gone from being an integral part of her people and a leader of her people to part of this new group of people who bring so many different perspectives to the table. She's changed in many ways.

"[All of that is] a huge part of the direction she goes in this year. There are quite a few new colors that we're going to see take place with Teyla. There's a darker color -- a more vengeful side of her -- which is linked to her loyalty to her people," Luttrell said. "During the beginning of the season, there's a great mystery that surrounds her people. And it's something that follows her throughout the season."

In addition to the new sides of the character fans will see, Lutrell also added that Teyla's personal life will factor in as well.

"She actually does have a love interest that she's been hiding from everybody," Lutrell said. "We haven't met him yet -- I haven't met him yet. I hope I'm part of the casting process."

Teyla's new storylines begin when Stargate Atlantis kicks off Season Four, premiering Friday, September 28 on the SCI FI Channel!
