Live ratings drop slightly for 'Lifeline'

The second episode of Stargate Atlantis's new season couldn't quite hold on to the "Live + Same Day" audience of the season premiere one week earlier. "Lifeline" earned an initial rating of 1.1, SCI FI Channel's news Web site SciFi Wire reported today.
This is down one-tenth of a point (8 percent) from the 1.2 earned by "Adrift." Atlantis fell behind other SCI FI original series for the week, including ECW (1.2), the season finale of Eureka (1.4), and Ghost Hunters (1.5).
The rating covers only the initial viewership of an episode -- those viewers who tuned in for the live broadcast on Friday night, October 5, as well as those who watched on DVR (digital video recorder, such as TiVo) by 3 a.m. that night.
Nearly 20 percent of U.S. households now own DVRs (up from about 9 percent one year ago), a fact that has significantly impacted Nielsen ratings across the television landscape. Though the "Live + Same Day" ratings are the numbers reported to the media and the general public, networks later receive additional reports that show how many viewers watched the recorded episode later in the week.
According to executive producer Joseph Mallozzi, "Adrift" received a bump to "around a 1.4" rating in Nielsen's "Live + 3 Day" rating.
The season premiere's "Live + 7 Day" rating further showed that Stargate Atlantis has not lost its audience from one year ago. Rather, more and more viewers have time-shifted away from the Friday night broadcast.
Ratings for "Reunion," "Doppelganger," and additional episodes will be published each Monday at SciFi Wire -- but unfortunately, fans won't have access to the "Live + 3 Day" and "Live + 7 Day" numbers unless the network or studio chooses to announce them. Stick with GateWorld for the latest!
