Atlantis nominated for four Geminis

Monday - September 1, 2008 | by Darren Sumner

Actress Jewel Staite and writer Alan McCullough are among those honored with nominations in the twenty-third annual Gemini Awards, recognizing the best in television produced in Canada. Stargate Atlantis received four nominations this year.

Staite, who plays Dr. Jennifer Keller on the show, has been nominated in the category of Best Performance by an Actress in a Continuing Leading Dramatic Role for her performance in the fourth season episode "Missing."

McCullough has been nominated in the Best Writing in a Dramatic Series category for his episode "Tabula Rasa," in which the Atlantis team suffers from city-wide amnesia.

Visual effects supervisor Mark Savela and his team were nominated for the fourth season premiere, "Adrift," in the Best Visual Effects category.

The city of Atlantis hurtles through space in Season Four's "Adrift."
And finally, Todd Masters and the MastersFX team were nominated in the Best Achievement in Make-Up category for the aged Rodney McKay in the season finale, "The Last Man."

The Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television will present the awards in a series of four gala events, culminating in the main awards gala on November 28 in Toronto. Visit GeminiAwards.ca for a complete list of this year's nominees.

Congratulations to the cast and crew of Atlantis!
