The final season of Stargate Atlantis is headed for the syndication market in the United States, airing on local broadcast stations all over the country starting this week! “Search and Rescue” will premiere in most cities during the weekend of September 19 and 20.
Season Five brought more changes to the show’s cast, including a new expedition commander in Richard Woolsey (Robert Picardo). Jewel Staite (“Jennifer Keller”) also went from recurring to a full-time cast member.
The season tied up some long-standing story arcs for the series, while also introducing new villains and new problems for the Atlantis team. In the big mid-season two-parter, Michael Shanks guest stars as Dr. Daniel Jackson.
The production team had intended on continuing on to a sixth season, but the studio and network instead decided to end the series and send it to direct-to-DVD movies — the first of which is still waiting to be produced.
The Stargate franchise has dominated the drama category in syndication for the past 11 years. We assume that Stargate Universe will follow SGA and make its syndication bow next year — though there is no official word from MGM yet.
Check your local listings to find out when and where Stargate Atlantis airs in your town. Broadcasters typically air the show on Saturday and/or Sunday. You can find the complete syndication schedule for the 2009-2010 season exclusively at GateWorld!
SGA could’ve easily gone on for a few more seasons. I will be royally pissed off if they don’t make any Atlantis movies after having cancelled the series to make room for “SG: 90210”.
After seeing all the Dragon Con videos of the SGA actors it makes me miss them even more and I can never see myself caring about the new SGU cast the way I fell in love with the SGA characters. SGA had so much more potential and an amazing cast with so much chemistry, what a waste. The SGU cast and storyline line leaves me cold in comparison.
Watching the Atlantis episodes just makes me miss the show even more. I still can’t believe that Atlantis was cancelled for such a poor substitute as Stargate Universe: 90210. Especially after the less than classy story lines I’ve read about.
OMG has my time machine finally started working or is the whole SG-90210 coming back to haunt me. Seriously I tire of reading the same things over and over again, am I glad that Atlantis has ended, about 50-50 if I completely honest, towards the end it was pretty pathetic, and the chemistry blackhawlk is talking of and the classy storylines that rsharpe is mentioning well.. was i watching a different show all these years and not even noticing? lol imo there was nothing classy about atlantis, not with Shep always trying to ‘kirk’ the hot woman of the week,… Read more »
wow people still think SGU is gonna by 90210? Jeez, I guess you haven’t watched any of the trailers or anything…
I have watched all the trailers for SGU and read quite a few of the stories and news releases about the new show. I referred to Atlantis as being classy because I never felt that my intelligence was insulted nor that the female characters were depicted as being less than equal to the male characters. John Shepparpd’s character kissed maybe 3 women in the 100 episodes of Atlantis. Not so deserving of the “Kirk” nickname except as a joke by McKay’s character. What I and many others are concerned about is the way that body-swapping, with the rape of the… Read more »
“Atlantis has ended, about 50-50 if I completely honest, towards the end it was pretty pathetic, and the chemistry blackhawlk is talking of and the classy storylines that rsharpe is mentioning well.. was i watching a different show all these years and not even noticing” Well xandder I guess you must have been watching a different show then. Flirting with about 3 women in 5 years is no Kirk, sheesh. We have sex scenes in the very first episode of SGU so there is no comoparison. The SGA cast had buckets of chemistry and its what kept the show going… Read more »
I thought the SGA cast had loads and loads of chemistry! They were the definition of TEAM for me.
And that Kirk comment was just silly stuff (by the way originally made by Rodney regarding Sheppard’s love for his “ship”,not anything to do with romance), Rodney’s seen more action than Shep ever did on that show.
I loved SGA and the characters (minus the McKeller)and got a huge amount of enjoyment out of watching it, all 5 seasons.
Well I cant speak for others just me, an the more I see old SGA episodes, more& more I miss it. I don’t care if others saw the show badly or didn’t see as classy, ME I think it was AND IS the BEST, the team feel, characters the actors, well just about everything was great, did it have some poor stories of course it did, but the characters an the actors made up for the lacking of creativity of the lack lustre writers who had abandoned the show because of there pet new shinny project Stargate Crapiverse. The more… Read more »
I would have given SGU more support and would have considered watching it if it did not REPLACE SGA. I am now boycotting SGU. SGA is an award winning show with a great fan base, and had more to tell…it could have easily gone on for at least 2 more seasons. The more I watch my SGA DVD’s the more I miss the characters and the actors… and the more I detest SGU. They are fools to cancel it. If they expect the Stargate loyal fan base to join the new SGU fan base, they had better come out with… Read more »
people still whine about SGA being canceled. That was a year ago… get a girlfriend or something. As for SGU, just watch the first few episodes. If you don’t like it, don’t watch it. Don’t complain until then (or after than perferably)
@maninthesuit “people still whine about SGA being cancelled. That was a year ago… get a girlfriend or something” First of all why are you assuming we are all male an what on earth has getting a girlfriend OR boyfriend got anything to do with it, some of us might just be female & married you know !!!!!! Yes its been a year SO WHAT, what’s you point??? If you liked the show an didn’t want it to end an liked that format, so its a year down the line, again SO WHAT. Thanks for telling us we MUST watch the… Read more »
ok… First of all… are you actually a married female or a single guy. :P
Two, so you honestly believe in judging a book by its cover. Nice Dude! (or Lady)
Three, you write way too much. Cut out some repetitive sentences to successfully bring your point across. Otherwise you might lose the reader. Just some writing tips. :)
“Atlantis Rocks” keep up the good work. “Man in the suit” how much does it pay to be a troll, or are you just contentious by nature? How does one’s marital status affect whether a tv show is enjoyed or not? You might want to preview your comments before you post them. I doubt I or anyone else will be taking writing tips from you.
@ maninthesuit Sarcasm NICE. 1) Judging a book by its cover OH GOD YES, that’s what the preface is for in books, to judge whether you fancy the read or not or it is with most people. Now with SGU that’s called watching trailers an reading the synopsis again that’s what they are there for, just because you obisuoulsy must WATCH and READ absolutely everything regardless GOOD FOR YOU love, me on other hand, I’m an individual and I know what I like an this is not one of them an I don’t have to justify that to you or… Read more »
On average there are more male viewers for Stargate. Not that one should be ashamed to be a married lady. Or a single man for that matter. If you haven’t seen SGU don’t complain about it. If you’re not going to watch it just don’t watch it. I don’t jump on people’s backs for watching Enterprise (even though I dislike it). While I’ll admit that I myself am not crazy about a certain plotline in SGU, I’m willing to reserve judgement till I actually see the show. Hopefully they won’t keep that plotline. And remember how SG-1 started in the… Read more »
This is for “Atlantis Rocks”. I’m going to the Vancouver Stargate Con in April, 2010. I’m hoping that some of TPTB will be on hand for us to voice our anger at the abrupt way Atlantis was cancelled and exactly what we think of Universive. Hope more fans like you will be there to join in!!! I’d also like to put them on the spot (as per Joe Flanigan) about the SGA movie which still shows no signs of being made.
I thought SGA S5 had a few throwaway episodes, but also had some of the best episodes. I haven’t seen the trailers to SGU and I don’t know if I’ll watch it. I never saw SG-1 until I recently caught some eps and was disappointed to see how similar some SGA storylines were. This does not leave me hopeful for SGU, especially as it’s mostly the same team and they’ve already finished the first season (or just about), which means there’s no room for them to seize upon a particular storyline that might register strongly, or a character that somehow… Read more »
@maninthesuit You said not to complain about a show until we watch it but this is an open forum about SGA and the other SG shows, surely this is the perfect place to do this. You obviously do not like anyone ‘jumping on your back’ about your opinions but you have done the same! You have also insulted, yes let’s not hide and say we are reading something else into what you comment, others for their resolve to comment and not to watch SGU, HYPOCRITICAL MUCH! Yes, right then I was doing exactly what you have and make no apology… Read more »
I missed Dr. Beckett. I wish he wasn’t replaced, although I like Dr. Keller too. :/
I really hope for a SGA movie, but as I hear that is unlikely to happen anytime soon.
*I’m a girl.
SGU follows the same streamline as NYPD Blues used to be filmed and Battlestar Galactica. I don’t know how you can even say that it was a hit. 3000 plus viewers is not even enough to say it was a success. SG! and SGA were in a league much better than SGU. Actors that can’t act, but are trying hard to make it catchy like the other two shows. Yet it was not convinceable like the other two shows. Even though they both are make believe it makes one wonder suppose there is life out there that are similiar to… Read more »
I bet if you made a movie combining the crews of SG1 and SGA and put out to the movies beginning where the show left off with Atlantis landing on earth . Atlantis is the last ship of the ancients and should be used to fet rid of all the Ghouls in our galaxy and the Wraith in the Pecusus to clean both Galaxies of the bad guys. A touch with the continuing next five of SGA to run to the same time spend as SG1 would be great. If SGA would’ve been advertised on other cable channels as Battlestar… Read more »
i miss sga!!! i cant wait until i get to meet joe flanigan at the creation convention in nov 7. its going to be so much fun.
the actors from sga had a lot of chemistry and they still have it off screen i have seen the dragon con videos and they seem to be lots of fun. you can see how much they interact with their fans. that is something alot of shows dont have is the chemistry these people had. jmo
In my opion Stargate Atlantis should not have been replaced by Stargate Universe. They could have existed next tot eachother.
