TV Guide's July 26 issue is now available on news stands everywhere in the U.S., with a cover story featuring Stargate SG-1! In addition to confirming the show's eighth season (story), the feature story "Ace In the Wormhole" also includes more fun highlights:

  • The identity of the Ancients and the location of the Lost City will be revealed this season, according to executive producer Robert C. Cooper.

  • O'Neill and Carter "will get closer, and a beloved character will meet an untimely end."

  • Richard Dean Anderson will definitely be back for Season Eight, with a promotion for Jack O'Neill. The actor will continue to work on his abbreviated weekly shooting schedule.

  • The spin-off series Stargate Atlantis is still on track to premiere in the summer of 2004.

  • According to co-creator Brad Wright, Atlantis will take place in another galaxy. The team will be led by civilians, and headed by a woman.

  • And the bad guys? Expect new villains in Atlantis, including one "who makes the Goa'uld look tame by comparison," according to Wright.

The article concludes that Stargate has more staying power than traditional science fiction shows like Star Trek and Andromeda, because of its real-world setting. "It's about people who are pretty similar to th epeople watching," Brad Wright told TV Guide. "It's really just about a bunch of schmoes."

Visit TVGuide.com to read a selection from the article! SG-1 also graces today's front page of the site. The July 26 issue will be on news stands through Sunday.

A brand new episode of Stargate SG-1 airs Friday at 9 p.m. Eastern/Pacific on The Sci-Fi Channel.
