THE STARGATE OMNIPEDIA
STASIS POD, ANCIENT
Life support unit designed for one individual, placed in groupings aboard Ancient warships. When deactivated the pod slides from a wall and a lid opens, allowing an occupant to exit or enter. Controls are located directly behind the lid, allowing an individual to initiate the freezing process on his own.
Ancient stasis pods can be modified so that their occupants can participate in a virtual construct, allowing their minds to remain active during long voyages. The pods interface directly with the ship's computer so the crew may work on tasks while they are asleep, even allowing the alteration and deletion of files from the ships computers.
KEY EPISODE(S) -
Aurora - McKay realizes the crew of the Aurora are participating in a shared virtual environment and suggests that he uses an unoccupied pod to meet with them himself.
