SO LONG, FANDOM.COM
Welcome back, Fandom! We're almost sad to see you go.
The fan-organized boycott of Fandom.com and its affiliates -- including Creation Entertainment, Cinescape Magazine and Cinescape.com (see previous report) -- is officially over. Fans called an end to the five-month-long standoff last month, after Fandom, Inc. ceased all legal action against Fandom.tv webmaster Carol Burrell in the wake of its financial collapse.
GateWorld has supported the boycott of Fandom, Inc., in favor of the rights of fans everywhere to be free of legal harassment "of the fans, by the fans." Fandom, Inc. attempted to trademark the generic word "fandom," forbidding its use by ... well, everyone else in the universe.
So, enjoy these fine links to Fandom.com and Cinescape.com -- while they last. While rumor has it that Cinescape (a site I love, and can finally endorse again) will spin off and continue its operations independent of its former parent company, Fandom, Inc. will cease all online operations in the near future.
Meanwhile, the FandomFightsBack mailing list will continue operations, to support the little guys everywhere who continue to be bullied by corporate organizations.
Three cheers.
Darren
LINK OF THE WEEK! Cinescape.com Whew! I've missed visiting this great resource over the past several months. Cinescape.com is the Net's best source for up-to-the-minute news, rumors and reviews of science fiction and fantasy film and television. Please support the site as it tries to get its feet back under itself in the wake of Fandom, Inc.'s financial woes.
