SG-1‘s “Reckoning, Part 2” has been nominated in the Outstanding Special Visual Effects For A Series category, as has Atlantis‘s “Rising.” The two will compete for the award with two episodes of Battlestar Galactica (“33” and “The Hand of God”).
Stargate Atlantis was also nominated in the Outstanding Main Title Theme Music category — ironically just four days after news broke that The SCI FI Channel has chopped the opening sequence to 10 seconds for the new season (story). The Atlantis music was composed by Joel Goldsmith.
SCI FI received seven nominations in all this year: one for SG-1, two for Atlantis, two for Galactica, and one each for mini-series Farscape: The Peacekeeper Wars and Legend of Earthsea (both in the “Outstanding Special Visual Effects For A Miniseries, Movie Or A Special” category).
The 57th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards will be presented September 18 from the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, televised on CBS in the U.S. For a complete list of this year’s nominees, visit Emmys.com.
