Stargate’s Elyse Levesque is headed back to science fiction, with a role in a new genre series for MGM.
Deadline reports that the former Stargate Universe co-star will appear in the new science fiction drama Earth Abides, based on the classic novel by George R. Stewart. The show is currently in production as a limited event series and will run on MGM+ this fall.
Levesque played Chloe Armstrong on SGU, which ran for two seasons on Syfy Channel. She confirmed the casting news on Instagram, saying: “What a dream to be a part of this talented ensemble!”
Written and executive produced by Todd Komarnicki (Sully) for MGM+ Studios, Earth Abides follows the survivors of a plague that has all but wiped out the human race. Alexander Ludwig (Vikings) and Jessica Frances Dukes (Ozark) star.
Levesque will play Maurine, described as “beautiful but troubled,” a woman who is “used to a life of wealth and sophistication” but is left despondent by her past traumas.
Sci-fi TV fans might also recognize other cast members on the new series, including Luisa D’Oliveira (The 100), Aaron Tveit (Schmigadoon!), Hilary McCormack (Killjoys), Jenna Berman (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina), Rodrigo Fernandez-Stoll (Ghosts), and Birkett Turton (iZombie).
The 6-episode series will be distributed worldwide by Amazon MGM Studios Distribution.
Sounds great
The book that all apocalyptic films and books come from because it was the first of the genre. My favourite book of all
Mary Shelly 1826, The Last Man?
One of the best SF stories I read as a teen. Scary, depressing, and still have a copy.
Why are seasons getting shorter? Star Trek TNG and SG1/Atlantis all had 22 episode seasons. Now granted a lot of episodes were just filler, “another day another mission” and had no bearing on the story ark, however some of these were more character building, like the eposide where Teal’c got an apartment off base was there for more serious comedic relief and character building, and I never really got the reason for SG-1 s1e4 with the patriarchy tribes except for character building and to show the way in which SG-1 were to handle strangers who were not really a threat.
